Roy Anderson, MD

I was born in St. Louis, lived 7 years in Atlanta, but grew up most of my life on Lookout Mountain which is right outside of Chattanooga, TN. This is where I met my wife, Haley, at Covenant College. We moved to Savannah, GA, for medical school and enjoyed our time near the beach, but for residency we wanted to go back towards the mountains. We were excited about the thought of Greenville from the beginning, but what sold us on the program was the amazing residents and leadership of the program, as well as the proximity to our families and the many things there are to do in and around Greenville. I love spending time with my wife, working around the house and going on walks with our two dogs. I love playing sports, doing nearly anything active, as well as watching sports. My wife and I love traveling when we are able to.

We are excited and grateful to be a part of the Greenville EM Residency community!

I then returned to the Palmetto State for medical school in Columbia where I also dabbled as a substitute teacher, pie eating champion, and Prisma Health super-fan. I’m thrilled to return to Greenville with my soon-to-be wife, Sara, and our little puppy, Cooper. From the awesome faculty and residents to all the amazing food and activities that Greenville has to offer, the decision to join this program was as easy as pie!

I became interested in medicine after dating a physician and decided to change careers in my early 30s. It has been a humbling and rewarding change so far, and I'm so happy to be in Greenville for the next few years and beyond! In my free-time I like to be outside mountain-biking, surfing, and hiking. I have done some very-low budget traveling to Central America and Southeast Asia and I hope to continue that tradition after I graduate residency.  I look forward to being an excellent physician and I'm so happy to be a part of the residency-family that I've joined here in Greenville.

Erich Burton, DO

As the son of a wanderlust pilot, my origins are complex and murky. Though born in Indiana, I received my Canadian citizenship at age 5 and spent the subsequent years shuffling between Florida, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Canada, North Carolina, and California. After obtaining my private pilot’s license in high school I spent the next 4 years studying Philosophy at the University of Florida. In college when I wasn’t busy contemplating metaphysics or systematically studying forms of logic, I spent countless hours racing mountain bikes, road bikes, fixing bicycles, rock climbing, and endeavoring trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Following college I spent several years near exclusively white water kayaking, exploring rivers in the South Eastern and Western U.S., Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and New Zealand. Before medical school I held an array of seasonal and part-time jobs including UPS package handler, music teacher, backcountry trip leader, outdoor educator, EMT, math tutor, camp counselor, safety kayaker, library assistant, and bicycle mechanic! These experiences culminated with me finding a great work-life balance while attending medical school in Blacksburg, VA.
