3rd Year Residents

Selom Avotri, MD

I was born in Dayton, OH and lived there for 11 years before moving to Alabama. I’ve lived in 3 cities in Alabama (Gadsden, Mobile, and Birmingham) before moving to Atlanta for graduate school. I love watching Alabama football (Roll Tide), and Nick Saban is an outstanding coach. I enjoy learning new things, working out, hiking, hanging with friends and family, and most things Atlanta. I love ATL music, television, and culture. I love going to live concerts. I’m currently focused on learning as much as possible in this great specialty of emergency medicine, being a great physician/man, and picking up new hobbies. I’m currently living the single life and enjoying finally having a job, but I aspire to start a family in the next few years.

Erich Burton, DO

As the son of a wanderlust pilot, my origins are complex and murky. Though born in Indiana, I received my Canadian citizenship at age 5 and spent the subsequent years shuffling between Florida, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Canada, North Carolina, and California. After obtaining my private pilot’s license in high school I spent the next 4 years studying Philosophy at the University of Florida. In college when I wasn’t busy contemplating metaphysics or systematically studying forms of logic, I spent countless hours racing mountain bikes, road bikes, fixing bicycles, rock climbing, and endeavoring trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Following college I spent several years near exclusively white water kayaking, exploring rivers in the South Eastern and Western U.S., Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and New Zealand. Before medical school I held an array of seasonal and part-time jobs including UPS package handler, music teacher, backcountry trip leader, outdoor educator, EMT, math tutor, camp counselor, safety kayaker, library assistant, and bicycle mechanic! These experiences culminated with me finding a great work-life balance while attending medical school in Blacksburg, VA.

She attended Veterinary School at Wisconsin while I moved to Chicago for Medical School. Just before moving to Greenville, we got married and became parents to the coolest dog in the world, Syrah. I love sports (especially football, rugby, and basketball) and we spend as much time as possible outdoors (hiking, backpacking, and camping). I also have an addiction to fishing and we enjoy traveling whenever time permits. We have started to fall in love with Greenville and all that it has to offer. Ashlee Davis, MD

Hello! My name is Ashlee Davis and I grew up in Tifton, a small town in humid South Georgia. I attended UGA for undergrad (go Dawgs!) and studied Medieval literature. I went to Mercer for medical school, where I quickly discovered an interest in emergency medicine. Growing up in rural Georgia, I’d always been drawn to the archetype of the country doctor, a physician who could do a little bit of everything from caring for the sick or injured to delivering babies. Modern EM is the closest thing to that and I fell in love with it during my time in med school. I’m so excited to be here in Greenville! It’s such a vibrant city and the training we receive here for EM is top notch. When I’m not in the ED nerding out over the finer aspects of resuscitation I have many outdoor hobbies and stacks of unread novels that keep me busy. Also, as an avid college football fan I love watching my beloved Bulldogs tee it up between the Hedges during the fall.
